Welcome to our new COTA, Rachel! We’re happy to have you on the team!
Thank you for planning and organizing our most recent AAC training, Cierra!
Big thank you to our mentors, Meghan and Bryant, for committing to supporting our new “Mentor’s Corner” in the newsletter and quarterly clinical skill building activities to support the team and families!
Mark Your Calendars! We’re excited to launch our quarterly Lunch & Learn series on Wednesday, 3/25 at 11:00 a.m. Meghan will follow up with a research article to review together, along with more details as the date gets closer.
February Intervention Activity:
Name: Cookin’ Up Some Fries
Targets: Dynamic balance, postural control, motor planning, bilateral coordination, and visual tracking
Materials/equipment needed: Platform swing, toy potatoes, misc colored balls or beanbags (e.g., Pow! balls, snowballs, yellow lettered beanbags, etc.), red cone chair (or other target receptacle)
Activity:
- We’re cooking up some fries today! Have the child in an upright seated OR prone position atop the platform swing and begin pushing (linear- back and forth vs. rotary – in a circle).
- The platform swing typically on the swing set near entrance to the gym can be adjusted for linear-only (hooks far apart), OR linear + rotary (hooks on the same carabiner in the middle).
- Instruct the child to retrieve a potato (i.e., in your hands, on the mat nearby, etc.) while swinging.
- See grading options below.
- Once potato is retrieved, toss the potato into the “cooker” (e.g., receptacle such as the red cone chair). Rinse and repeat.
- White snowballs can be used for “salt”, red Pow! balls can be used for ketchup, etc.
- Once all fries and condiments are “cooked” and ready, instruct the child to close their eyes, tilt their head up, and pretend to “eat” all the fries while you pour it all on top of them!
- Clean-up time
Grading:
- Up: Alternate between linear and rotary swinging, shift target receptacle/red cone chair further away, only utilize moving targets/balls to be retrieved
- Down: Place tire swing around perimeter of platform swing, shift target receptacle/cone chair closer, only engage in linear swinging, have stationary targets/balls to be retrieved

Please don’t forget to sign our updated 2026 Employee Manual being circulated by Bambee. Any manual highlights have been highlighted.
OTs: Please adjust any post-evaluation email templates to reflect scheduling expectations with families. Several different options are provided below for you to select from:
- While I don’t have immediate openings, our admin team can work on supporting a flexible start date to begin therapy with one of my skilled colleagues and will follow up to get your scheduling openings.
- We can look at setting up a standing scheduling now to determine if my scheduling availability aligns with yours and/or if one of my colleagues would have more immediate openings. Our admin team is cc’d to this email to help support the scheduling process.
- Based on my recommendations for therapy, please share some days/times that you can come to the clinic and our admin team will work on aligning your schedule with current therapist openings.
- Please don’t forget to cc your department directors OR Gabi on your monthly parent emails home to our families.
Vacation Planning:
- Submit a copy of the Time Off Form to the Clinic Coordinator for proper routing and approval for any time off one month away or more. (Click here)
